Peter wanted Christians to remember one thing: the Promises! We have a record, you know, of what the Apostle was thinking and saying just before he left this world. And he wasn't trying to frame his bio in a positive light - he wasn't sanding the rough edges of his own image. Peter didn't seem to worry about how he would be remembered.
