Jesus said that the persecuted will be blessed. Paul adds that those doing the persecuting will be punished! Christ will not deal kindly with those who hurt His Bride. And if you don't believe the "gentle Jesus" could ever judge anyone harshly, than you need to read 2 Thessalonians 1. Paul is encouraging that band of believers to keep persevering, and waiting for the great role-reversal to come.
