The Question

"When did Jesus claim to be God?" It's a challenge to Christians - sometimes an accusation: "Jesus never claimed deity for himself; you're just making that up!" Today we'll look at one of the times when Christ "made Himself equal with God." There is no doubt about the passage or the interpretation; the Lord speaks plainly, and His audience understands Him. And He doesn't just make the claim - He backs it up with multiple lines of evidence. Here's Part 1 of Jim's sermon, The Question.

The Lunch That Changed The World

The Disciples were discombobulated. Jesus had told the Twelve to do something they couldn't do. And He seemed to know they couldn't do it. But He still wanted them to do it. Then He told them how. We're looking at "The Feeding of the Five-Thousand." We can learn quite a few things from how this event unfolded - including some lessons about the character of God, and the nature of faith. Let's listen as Jim brings us Part 1 of his sermon, The Lunch that Changed the World.

Water Walking

It was a dark and stormy night...for water skiing! The Disciples had been right inside a miracle. They had distributed a few fish sandwiches to thousands of hungry people, and had more leftovers then they started with. They had been amazed but not enlightened, it seems, because that night they encountered a new challenge, and reacted not in faith but in fear. The Master would help them take their next steps - and they would be wet ones! Here's Jim to open his sermon, Water Walking.

Outside The Box

"Waste," or "a good work?" Funny how, if you give something valuable to God, other people will have opinions about that! Folks who are not parties to the transaction at all - or are they? - want to weigh in on your gift. People tried to throw shade on Mary of Bethany for her irrational show of gratitude. But Jesus praised her. Where are we in that picture? Let's open our Bibles to John 12, for Pastor Jim's sermon, Outside the Box.

The Livelihood

We know that Uncle Sam monitors our giving. Do we always keep in mind that Jesus watches, too? The Lord wasn't impressed by all the rich people pouring large amounts of money into the Temple treasury - though they were plenty impressed with themselves! They were just giving to God things they wouldn't miss. One poor widow, on the other hand! She taught a master class in generosity. According to Jesus, she gave more than all of them - not "any," but "all!"
