Investing In The Family Business

What are you doing? Wow, that's an open question, isn't it - "What are you doing?" As you're working or studying or enjoying retirement, what are you after? Whose kingdom are you building? Our thoughts can get very cloudy about this matter, as we rattle around in our everyday routines. But Jesus was clear-minded. From the age of 12, if not earlier, He knew His purpose. Jim hopes to make our purpose just as clear with his message, Investing in the Family Business. Here's Part 1.

This message can be purchased, unsegmented for broadcasting and in its entirety, for just $7 on a single CD by calling +1 (800) 984-2313, and of course you can always listen online or download the message for free.

A Most Unusual Beginning

We should begin where Jesus did. It seems odd to us - as it did to John - that the Incarnate Word would come to him to be baptized. This is the wrong way 'round, isn't it? It seems very much as if the Lord is making a statement. In his sermon, A Most Unusual Beginning, Pastor Jim will show us four statements, four markers being laid down that day.

The Testing

"God loves me; He wouldn't want me to suffer." Satan's first test for Jesus was one that we fail all the time. We rationalize, "Surely God wants me to be happy; therefore...." It's going to come down to a choice of who we'll believe; the Bible, or the devil.

Winning The Contest

Do we use the Bible like Jesus does, or like Satan does? "The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose," Shakespeare observed. And we have a couple of instances of that preserved in Matthew, chapter 4. In what we call the "Wilderness Temptation" not only are Jesus' identity and loyalty being tested, but the integrity of the Word of God is being challenged, too. Here's the opening of a sermon Jim preached in September, 2001. It's called, Winning the Contest.
