Promises: Present, False, Future

The Promises

Peter wanted Christians to remember one thing: the Promises! We have a record, you know, of what the Apostle was thinking and saying just before he left this world. And he wasn't trying to frame his bio in a positive light - he wasn't sanding the rough edges of his own image. Peter didn't seem to worry about how he would be remembered. He wanted to pass along one thing: trust in what God has said to us - Old Testament and New. Here's Jim with part 1 of his sermon, The Promises.

Poison Promises

You won't see any bumper stickers reading, "I'm a heretic. Follow me to hell." I haven't come across any T-shirts emblazoned with the words, "Listen to me; I'm lost." Just as the prince of darkness likes to parade as an angel of light, the killers of sheep would rather not be identified as wolves. Deception. It's one mark of those false teachers that abound in the last days. Jim will expound on this attribute and 2 more, in his sermon called, Poison Promises.

Delayed Promises

The same-old-same-old? No, you're forgetting something! "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." Well, it's true that some things never change - like scoffers! They've been playing the "gotcha" game with God for thousands of years. But their game is missing a playing-piece! We'll close our short series in 2 Peter with a look at Delayed Promises.
