Faithful But Not Finished

"Now, faith is..." - that sounds like we're going to get a definition, doesn't it? The King James reads: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." But it's hard to understand what that could mean. More recent translations propose, "...the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."
