Stories Jesus Told - Volume 2

Being a Disciple

We've learned about the cost of being a disciple; it's high. But what about the benefits? Some of us have been guilty of "selling" Christianity: telling people about the wonderful perks, and downplaying the challenges. Not Jesus! He has put the price in big, bold print right at the top. But let's not stop there. The benefits of following Christ are even more astonishing than the cost - or so it seems to many of us. Here's Jim to talk about Being a Disciple.

Shrewd Management

Jesus told us to be "wise as serpents, innocent as doves." We often get that backwards! Today we'll turn to the Parable of the Unjust Steward, or the Shrewd Manager. If this fellow had been wise he would have been a much better manager, and if he'd been smart he would have known that his shenanigans would get back to the master, eventually. But he has one trait that the Lord would like us to emulate!

More Cents Than Sense

What do you do when your barns are too small? It's a big problem! Never mind barns; I think my wife's closet is actually shrinking. And I've got to do something about that tiny garage! If there's any story of Jesus that we can identify with, it's the one we're about to hear from Luke 12. The rich farmer was having a good year, but he was about to have a bad night. He can be a warning to us. Pastor Jim says he had More Cents than Sense.

Talents On Loan From God

You had one job! The master left his servants with a lot of money. And they understood the assignment: Grow this! While the big guy was away they were living comfortably in the master's house, eating his food, enjoying the pool and the big-screen TV. But what was happening with the money? Today we'll investigate the Parable of the Talents, with Jim.

Measuring Success

When we talk about "The Rich Man and Lazarus," we're leaving someone out. Now, the rich fellow had never struck up a conversation with Lazarus while the two were alive - and apparently he didn't have any practice at talking to God, either. So in Hades he addresses himself to the man who seems to be in charge: Father Abraham. He's the third man in the story. Jesus spoke this illustration for the benefit of His disciples. So let's try to listen with fresh ears as Jim brings us Part 1 of, Measuring Success
