Socrates spoke against the "unexamined life." Jesus warns us of the undisciplined life. From the Lord's metaphor of the "narrow road," we can understand that following Him won't make us popular; and that the way will feel restrictive, sometimes. Oh, there is joy in the Christian life, and extended family; but first and foremost ours is the road of obedience, not the road of instant gratification.
