We wouldn't expect much from 12 laymen on their first ministry trip - but Jesus did! If anything, we'd expect a dozen rookies to mess things up, and we'd entrust them with just a token authority, so they couldn't get into too much trouble. But the Lord sent them out - two by two, as Mark adds - with a serious mission: to announce the King's arrival, to heal, and to cast out demons. In short, to replicate what Christ was doing.
