The Word Of God Does Not Fail

Man's problem is sin. Redemption through Jesus is the solution. But is there a problem with the solution? Christ didn't just come to die for our sins, and rise again - He came, He died, He rose according to the Scriptures. But those same Scriptures make promises to Israel that can't be fulfilled if they reject Him. That's the challenge Paul is so masterfully addressing in Romans 9. The questions are: Who is a Jew, really? and, What did God promise, really?

Potter's Right Over His Clay

If God is sovereign, then isn't He also responsible? If the Almighty "elects" some people and hardens the hearts of others, aren't we off the hook? We can't sin if we can't really choose. Paul, playing devil's advocate in Romans 9, puts it this way: “Why does God still blame us? For who is able to resist His will?” He answers with an earthy illustration. We're not puppets; we're more like pottery. Here's Part 1 of Jim's sermon, Potter's Right Over His Clay.

One For All

You could say that God has only one requirement of us. That single demand from our Creator is righteousness. Or, as I like to say, rightness. The commandments, the laws, everything in both Testaments, all boils down to Job's original question: "How can a man be just before God?" In his letter to the Romans Paul explained how God's righteousness works. And it will work; we will encounter it one way, or another. Here's Jim to open a new sermon called, One for All.

Does God Keep His Promises?

Has Israel been replaced? Replacement Theology says that you can cross out every promise to the Jewish nation in the Old Testament, and write in "the church" above it. That doctrine has some serious problems, maybe starting with Paul's argument in Romans 9 through 11. We're right in the middle of that inspired explanation. The Apostle will insist that God is not finished with Israel, even though He's now calling others into His church. The question is, Does God Keep His Promises?

God's Wisdom Reflected In God's Judgement

“We don't know a millionth of one percent about anything,” said Thomas Edison. Ignorance about the universe is not our problem; science begins with the confession, "I don't know." Our problem is that we won't admit our ignorance, and so we're trapped in the darkness of our own speculations and "fudge factors." Humility is required, whether we want to learn about physical realities or spiritual ones. And in that humility we'll find wonder, and we'll learn to worship the Only Wise God.
