The Heart Of The Problem

Where is this mean God I keep hearing about? So far in Genesis we've seen a loving Creator provide a covering for sin, and protect humans from total catastrophe. As we move to chapter 4, God proactively warns Cain against the dangerous path he's on. Here's Jim with the first part of his message, The Heart of the Problem.

A Tale Of Two Lamechs

He was the best of men; he was the worst of men. Maybe that's the only way to open a sermon called, A Tale of Two Lamechs. As we continue through Genesis we read an account of early man that's supported by the physical evidence - it's just not the narrative we might find in a museum or a textbook today. Adam lived to see the earth well-populated with literate, civilized people. And these people knew their history because they could consult eyewitnesses. Lamech is the one name of two very different men.

The Reasons For The Flood

Was God justified in wiping out almost the entire human race in the Flood? Yes, and merciful, too. Man was on a downward spiral of sin, violence and corruption. People were living long lives of ever-increasing sin, "storing up wrath for the day of wrath." What's a loving God to do? His solution was decisive, imaginative...and totally necessary. Pastor Jim will tell us about The Reasons for the Flood, starting with a sobering personal story.

Walking With God

What does it mean to "walk with God?" We toss around phrases like, "my walk with Christ," and "our daily walk." But we may not realize the significance of that metaphor. From the Garden of Eden, to the road to Emmaus, and on into eternity, God desires to have a kind of regular, casual fellowship with us that's pictured by two friends talking a stroll. And if we want to learn about walking with God, we need to study Enoch, the all-time world champion at that. Our Firm Foundations series moves forward with the opening of a new sermon by Pastor Jim, Walking with God.

The Waters Of The Flood

"All the fountains of the great deep [were] broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened." Water from below, water from above...and no escape except the one that had been rejected: the ark. In our study of Genesis we've come to the passage that explains the Great Flood. Science tells us "something happened," but the Word of God tells us what happened, when - and most importantly, why it happened. The lessons of this first worldwide judgment are too important for us not to learn.
